A Journey into the Orient. Lunch Set - Peony 牡丹花 at Cherry Garden.

Cherry Garden has always been one of my favorite places for their exquisite, quality dim sum delicacies and grand oriental decor.
This time, we decided to go for the lunch set. There were total 5 lunch sets available (including 1 vegetarian set) for you to choose from. We chose the Peony (牡丹花) lunch set as the dishes described seem really tempting, especially the Oven-baked lobster with cheese and spicy XO sauce. This Peony lunch set is priced at SGD$78 per person for a minimum of 2 people.

We were served this flavorful roast pork cubes side dish while waiting for our food.

First dish of the Peony set was Cherry Garden’s Peking duck with traditional condiments Chinese crepes, spring onions, cucumbers and homemade sauce (樱桃园片皮鸭). This dish is pretty normal.

Symphony of Cherry Garden’s dim sum trilogy (点心三品). Their dim sum has always lived up to expectation. There are 3 different dim sum presented nicely in a bamboo case. The dim sum are 1) Abalone on siew mai, 2) Crystal Dumpling 3) Har gow in spinach skin. This dish is delightful in presentation and superb in flavor and texture!

Braised fish fillet with spinach tofu and capsicum in black bean sauce (豉椒鱼球菠菜豆腐煲). This dish was again superb in taste and texture. The fish is tender and fresh, and really goes very well with the black bean sauce, and spinach tofu which is chewy and yet tender.

Oven-baked lobster with cheese and spicy XO sauce (芝士极品酱烤龙虾). Does this lobster looks small to you? Yes it is indeed, and I thought the shape looks kind of interesting as well. I was served the smaller one perhaps the waiter thought I should watch my diet. Taste wise, i think it did not meet my expectation, and I was actually looking forward to this dish. I cannot really taste the spicy XO sauce and it is kind of dry or overcooked.

La mien soup with shredded duck and Sichuan vegetables (榨菜火鸭丝拉面). This is lightly flavored and perhaps to help diners not to feel too full or gelat after the meal.

Cherries in nui er hong and aged kuei hua wine cocktail jelly served with refreshing lychee sorbet (樱桃红). This elegant dessert is refreshing in taste.
Overall, top quality Cantonese cuisine with good ambience. Service was good, although this time they seems a bit understaffed.
